WHAT TO EXPECT

When preparing for your visit to Cherish it is beneficial to the child to explain to them that someone will talk with them about what was reported. It is extremely important not to tell the child what to say. Let them know they are in a safe place and not in any trouble with the person they will talk with. Alleged perpetrators are not allowed on Cherish property. Only the non-offending parent or caregiver should be present at Cherish with the child. There is no cost to the families who visit us.

Before You Arrive

Interviews done at Cherish are based on referrals from the Department of Child Services or Law Enforcement only. If you suspect abuse has occurred, please call 1-800-800-5556.

WHAT TO EXPECT

When You Arrive

We are located at the cross roads of Stony Creek Way and Herriman Blvd. When you arrive at Cherish you’ll park in the parking lot directly in front of our building. Ring the doorbell and a Family Advocate will be there to greet you. Your Family Advocate will show you and your child the waiting area and answer any questions you may have about the interview process.

Our Space

Our office is a child-friendly environment that provides a neutral, safe place for children and their families.

WHAT TO EXPECT

To maintain the integrity of the investigative process, no one will be in the room with the child, other than the interviewer. The interviewer will have a one-on-one conversation with the child, that is developmentally appropriate and avoids leading or suggestive questions. While the child is talking with the interviewer, the non-offending caregiver will be in the waiting area talking to a Family Advocate.

During the Interview

WHAT TO EXPECT

Following the interview, the team may meet with the non-offending caregiver regarding the next steps. A Family Advocate will wait with the child and let them add a heart to our heart wall and pick a comfort item to take home. After the visit, a Family Advocate will follow up with the non-offending caregiver regarding additional services discussed during the visit.
